ICG/CARIBE-EWS EMWIN Training

In association with UNESCO/IOC, the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), the Caribbean Institute for Meterology and Hydrology (CIMH), and the Department of Emergency Management, Barbados (DEM), CTIC hosted the Emergency Managers Weather Information Network (EMWIN) Training in Barbados, May 25 – 30, 2015.  Financial support for the training was kindly provided by the United States Agency for International Assistance, Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) through UCAR.

The technical training was led by UCAR through a multi-media approach aimed at orienting participants to the EMWIN software and hardware, and providing a working knowledge in the utility and applicability of the EMWIN System including trouble-shooting. The target audience was personnel from the National Tsunami Warning Centres (NTWCs), Tsunami TWFPs, National Disaster Management Offices (NDMOs) and other tsunami emergency response (TER) agencies.

Invitations were dispatched to Barbados, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, the Kingdom of the Netherlands (Bonaire, Saba, Sint Eustatius), Sint Maarten, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom (Montserrat, Bermuda), Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela as well as regional partners who are permanent observers to ICG/CARIBE-EWS.  The training workshop was divided into two, three-day sessions (English and Spanish versions) and was attended by 32 participants.
