Co-Developing an Ocean Literacy Research Program for the Decade

Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO

UN Agency

This collaborative design workshop is the first in a series of three to co-develop an Ocean Literacy Research Program for the Decade. In this initial session, we will co-identify what research has been done and where, its outcomes, gaps and priorities.

This two-hour workshop is the first of three that will take place from July 2021 to June 2022, each scaffolding on the previous one, with the objective to co-develop a collaborative Ocean Literacy Research Program for the Decade. The second workshop will take place in early November aligning with COP26. The third workshop will take place as a side-event at the 5th International Marine Protected Areas Congress (IMPAC5) being hosted by Canada in late June 2022. This first workshop will serve as a 'stock take' of ocean literacy research to date - what research has been done, by whom, where, outcomes - and to begin mapping this work onto an online crowdsourced platform. This workshop also provides an opportunity to co-identify gaps, priorities and interests.
