Deep Sea to Desktop: The iMirabilis2 Expedition

Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO

UN Agency

Find out how you can experience the iMirabilis2 expedition to the deep sea around Cabo Verde this summer. We will explain what this mission is about and how our extensive online coverage can connect you with capacity-building activities on the ship.

In summer 2021, the iMirabilis2 expedition will explore deep-sea ecosystems around the Cabo Verde islands in the Atlantic Ocean. This expedition offers incredible learning opportunities for marine scientists at all career stages, as well as a chance to open up the world of seagoing science to a broader audience. To ensure as many people as possible can benefit from these experiences, we will provide extensive online coverage of the expedition from start to finish, focusing on delivering as much training and capacity building as possible to a remote audience. This satellite event will showcase how audiences worldwide can engage with the expedition and its training program, including an interactive Q&A/discussion session with the early career researchers involved in the mission.

Speakers: Vikki Gunn, Murray Roberts, Cova Orejas, Veerle Huvenne, Kelsey Barnhill, Beatriz Vinha, Danielle De Jonge, Susan Evans

Satellite Activity time: 8 July 3:30 - 5:15 pm CEST
