Co-Designing Solution-Oriented Research for Sustainable Development

Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO

UN Agency

The session will explore the importance of the co-design approach for solution-oriented research in line with the 2030 Agenda. In a blend of interactive exchanges and interesting inputs by experts, it will build knowledge and practice of co-design.

This online session will promote the need for a transformation in ocean science. To address global change and pressing environmental issues, more integrative research, international cooperation and transdisciplinary collaborations are necessary. Working across scientific disciplines, regions and societal groups requires new methods and approaches. This not only concerns research projects between the global North and South but is also explicitly an issue in integrative and transdisciplinary research projects. The session will build knowledge and practice of co-design in order to support collaboration and a science-to-policy uptake. Participants will learn, discuss and share experiences of collaborative and participative research and better integration of diverse aspects.

Speakers: Anna Zivia, Lysa Wini-Simeon, Gabriele Bammer, James Kairo
