We are pleased to announce that the Regional Consultative and Planning workshop towards the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) will take place in Tokyo, Japan, 31 July - 2 August 2019, with the support of the Government of Japan, through its Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
The regional workshop will provide a platform for advancing dialogue among scientists and academia, policy makers and managers, civil society organizations, ocean businesses and industries, and donors and foundations towards the identification and development of solution-oriented approaches to ocean sustainability. The three-day meeting will include a mix of plenary and break-out sessions to facilitate international, interdisciplinary discussions.
The regional workshop will identify regional specific priorities and requirements as well as contributions to global objectives. It will aim to identify:
-Knowledge gaps and regional ocean science priorities for the 2030 Agenda and the Samoa Pathway
-Existing relevant partnerships/networks/initiatives and potential ones/interested partners
-Priorities in capacity-development/training
-Priority themes and topics to be addressed by the Decade
-Other regional initiatives and meetings to be aligned with the Decade

For these who wish to apply for financial support, you are strongly advised to upload your CV. Due to a limited number of seats and financial constraints, selection will be made on all registrants to select the most suitable participants, based on his/her descriptions about work experience and/or engagement in international programmes and activities as well as regional networks.
