Univ. of the South Pacific tropical Pacific Science Enables Abundant Food (SEAFood) with Healthy Oceans: Proposed Programme Description

Ocean Policy & Sustainable Development|Business & Industry

The University of the South Pacific (USP) and OceanForesters are posting this proposed programme description to invite partners and other potential regional Lead Institutions from the entire UN Ocean Decade community. The Executive Summary explains how USP’s mission and the desires of its member coastal communities dovetail with “The science we want for the Ocean we need.”

USP continues seeking Partners, which can be other Lead Institutions, coastal communities from outside its region, researchers globally, and funders. The Oceans connect us all. The more regional SEAFood Programmes, the better. OceanForesters provides pro-bono, no obligation, help with the paperwork on submittals for the first Ocean Decade Call for large-scale, multi-country, transformative Decade programmes. The Request for Endorsement is due 15 January 2021. Decisions on endorsement will be made in the first quarter of 2021.

USP and OceanForesters with welcome a global Lead Institution. SEAFood is envisioned as a global programme that offers coastal communities many possible projects to choose. Some communities might elect mostly marine protected areas. Some communities might elect mostly floating flexible built-reef ecosystems. Some might elect blends of several variations on SEAFood with Healthy Oceans.

OceanForesters may post more descriptions for more regions or improved versions of this description in December. This description contains more details than the Request for Endorsement submittal form. Regional Lead Institutions will have absolute control over their submittal. (Nice if the Regional Lead can cut and paste to fill out the Survey Monkey form.)

Potential Regional Lead Institutions or Partners can email markcapron@oceanforesters.org with the necessary information (see page 21). All are invited to suggest edits and make comments at the dedicated Ocean Decade Forum: https://www.oceandecade.org/forum or by email. Feel free to use this proposed programme description as a template to create your own programme and project proposals.
