An aspiring deck officer whose ability to synthesize information quickly, competent assertiveness, willingness to learn, natural leadership skill, and an out-of-the-box thinking has earned him a recommendation of promotion for third officer junior from his captain as well as the respect of his crewmates.
Yrhen Bernard is also passionate on revolutionizing the maritime industry to be more inclusive, sustainable, and technologically-advanced. As a seafarer, he strongly advocates for what he calls the "Five S of Shipping: Safe, Secure, Sustainable, Smart, and incluSive."
He is currently affiliated with several national and international organizations and serves as:
•Advisor for Human Rights at Sea;
•Member and columnist of The Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN);
•Associate Member of The Nautical Institute (NI);
•Education and Training Committee member of Asia Marine Educators Association (AMEA), and;
•Student-member of The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST).
He is also a supporter of International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF).
